Cllr Alex Black
The new Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Alex Black is aged 74 years and will share his term of office with his wife and former councillor Janet.
The couple share an ambition to support children and young people and are looking forward to this aspect of their civic time.
Alex is a former police officer having served 30 years in this profession. He began his career in 1962 at Wallasey and then served in Chester, Winsford and Ellesmere Port before retiring from the force in 1992.
On retirement Alex obtained employment with C&C Catering Equipment Limited of Chester and later was a bus driver employed by the former Cheshire County Council.
He was elected as Councillor for Hoole ward in 2011.
Alex has been married to Janet, the Deputy Lady Mayoress for 54 years and the couple have two children, a son and a daughter. They have two grandchildren – twin boys – to whom they are devoted, who will be 11 on 18 May – the day of the Mayor-Making Ceremony.
Janet, the new Deputy Lady Mayoress was a member of Chester City Council for many years representing College ward, now known as Garden Quarter.
Janet and Alex are frequently seen out together in Chester and the surrounding area and enjoy doing many things together.
Alex intends to retire from Cheshire West and Chester Council at the next elections in 2019.
